Meet the Team,
Action Renewables is the lead authority on renewable energy in Northern Ireland. We are a not-for-profit organisation, a private company, limited by guarantee, reporting to a Management Board consisting of an Executive Chairman and Non-Executive Directors.
Michael Doran, Director
Michael Doran joined as Director of Action Renewables in April 2009 from Rural Generation where he was the Business Development Director. Michael is a Chartered Surveyor, having graduated from the University of Salford in 1978. He has been on the N.I Council of the RICS in several capacities, and is the Past Chairman of the International Environment Faculty of the RICS. He is also a Chartered Environmentalist, a qualified Project Manager and a Member of the Institute of Directors. He was the Irish representative on AEBIOM, the European Biomass Association from 2002 to 2006 and was on the Energy Crops Committee of DG Agriculture until 2005.
Terry Waugh, Deputy Director
Terry specializes in EU funding opportunities, is currently managing five INTERREG IVc programmes and is in charge of an application for a further INTERREG IVc Atlantic Area application in which Action Renewables will be the Lead Partner. Terry takes a lead role in the marketing aspects of the company and developed the Action Renewables Association. Currently the Association has 17 company members and derives a substantial part of the Company�s Income. �Terry started work with Northern Ireland Electricity where he gained over twenty years experience of the energy industry�before moving to Action Renewables. Most recently he was the Customer Relations Manager for NIE�s Transmission and Distribution. Terry has a Batchelors Degree in Business and Finance, a Masters of Business Administration, and an Open University accreditation on Energy for a Sustainable Future.
Adrian Martin, Project Manager
Adrian Martin has worked as a Project Manager at Action Renewables since 2009.�Adrian holds a BSc Hons Degree, from the University of Ulster Jordanstown and has previously worked with Airtricity and Powertech Ireland. Adrian has experience of many renewable energy installation projects, covering both the domestic and commercial sectors including installations in Solar, Biomass, Geothermal and Wind energy.
Adrian�s work at Action Renewables includes; conducting feasibility studies for commercial renewable energy projects, ROC trading, on site wind monitoring and project management of the RASLRES INTERREG project (working on sustainable biomass supply chains).
Dawn Murphy, Project Manager
Dawn Murphy joined the AR team as an Advisor and Community Information Officer in April 2006 providing renewable energy advice to householders and community groups. Dawn is now Project Manager for the MCS certification department of Action Renewables. She is also responsible for Quality Management and website development. Dawn previously worked as an environmental consultant and holds a masters degree in Environmental Management, is an associate member and registered environmental auditor with the Institute of Environmental Management and assessment. Neil Mullan, Project Manager
Neil Mullan is the REIA co-ordinator / Programme Manager with Action Renewables. Neil joined Action Renewables in 2006 as an Advisor and then progressed to Information Officer, providing advice and support to householders during the Reconnect contract. Neil then became Team Leader of the Reconnect grant Programme providing direct support to the scheme manager and to DETI. Neil is currently involved in assessments of installers under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
Nicola Murphy, Business Development Manager
Nicola Murphy (nee Chang) was appointed as New Business Developer with Action Renewables in 2008. Previously Nicola has worked in the New Business sector within the media industry including the Telegraph Group in London. Most recently Nicola spent over 7 years working throughout the USA and Canada. Since joining Action Renewables she has been responsible for New Business as well as marketing and PR initiatives. Nicola has delivered on new business initiatives through successful networking as well as building on existing relationships in addition to promoting training, consultancy and seminar activities. Nicola holds a BA (Hons) in Business Administration, HND in International Business and NCFE Environmental awareness for Business and Industry. Nicola is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is currently a committee member on the Energy Institute in NI.
Jonathan Buick, Project Manager
Jonathan Buick is a Project Manager in Action Renewables. He has over ten years experience in energy and environmental consultancy, waste management and renewable energy technologies. Jonathan is an authority on government support measures for renewable energy, such as the Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation and the Feed-in Tariff in Great Britain. His technical and economic expertise in renewable energy spans all technologies, but particularly wind, anaerobic digestion and solar thermal, and this expertise has led to him providing training and advice to a wide range of stakeholders, from the farming sector in Northern Ireland to the Government of Azerbaijan. Jonathan has a MSc in Environmental Management and Policy and is a Chartered Scientist.
Laura Coey, Education Officer
Laura Coey is Action Renewables’ Primary School Education Officer, she holds a Geography degree from Queen�s University of Belfast and a PGCE in Geography and Religious Education from University of Ulster, Coleraine. Laura has spent time working in both primary and post-primary schools in Northern Ireland. In addition to her local teaching experience, she has taught in Tajikistan and India. Laura has a keen interest in renewable energy and works with local primary schools to educate Key Stages 1 and 2 on the importance of trying to slow climate change through the use of renewable energy and by saving energy.
Annette Herty, Office Manager
Annette Herty is Action Renewables’ Office Manager and has been with the company since 2006.� Annette has a wealth of experience in team management and customer service.� She previously worked with British Airways as Team Manager in both sales and customer service.� Prior to this she provided clerical support for the headquarters of the Eastern Health & Social Services Board in Belfast.
Irene Robinson, Accountant
Irene Robinson was appointed to the post of Accountant with Action Renewables in April 2007. She holds a BSc Hons Degree in Economics from University of Ulster, a Masters in Accounting, from Queens University Belfast and is a Chartered Accountant. She has over 15 years accounting experience in a variety of roles in public practice and industry. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Applications of IT in Accountancy from DCU.
Mick O’Reilly, Project Manager
Mick joined Action Renewables as a Project Manager in July 2011. His work includes conducting feasibility studies for renewable energy projects such as Wind, Solar PV and Solar Thermal, on-site wind monitoring technical support and data analysis, delivering green building and energy efficiency training, as well as carrying out domestic and commercial energy advice visits. Mick has previously worked as a Project Manager for London Community Recycling Network and the Greater Village Regeneration Trust, helping develop recycling focused social enterprise projects with community groups. Prior to starting with Action Renewables he participated in Carbon Zero’s Pittsburgh Programme, working in the US with eCap Network on energy efficiency projects in the industrial, commercial and public sectors. Mick graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a BSc Honours Degree in Geology and an MSc in Environmental Engineering.
Philip Munro, Project Assistant
Philip Munro joined Action Renewables in January 2012. Philip holds a BSc Hons Degree in Sustainable Environmental Management from the Scottish Agricultural College and has previously worked with International Resource & Recycling Institute and Strathclyde University. Before joining Action Renewables, Philip worked on EU Northern Periphery Projects, particularly the Micre project; assisting small businesses with renewable energy solutions. Philip’s work at Action Renewables will concentrate on the SMALLEST project which looks to assist communities with renewable energy solutions.
