Thank you to everyone who came along to the NI Renewable Heat Incentive conference on 15th September. The event was very well attended and there was large amount of interest, discussion and debate. The presentations from the event are available in the Resources section of the website and photographs are available in the Gallery. The consultation is due to close on 3rd October 2011 and we would urge all interested stakeholders to respond.

Action Renewables can now offer 6 and 12 month wind studies on your site. The study would consist of the installation of a 20m mast, complete with two anemometers (one at 10m and one at 20m) to ensure maximum accuracy of readings as well as taking into account the roughness of the wind. A new funding programme for renewable energy projects is now available from the DARD Rural Development Programme -Rural Life stream. The programme provides 50% of eligible project costs upto a maximum of 50,000.00 per project. Funding level will depend on the specifics of the project.
Depending on the technology proposed, certain prerequisits are necessary at the time of application, for example an independant feasibility study (not produced by the technology installer). Funding is also available for 50% of the cost of feasibility studies, under the technical assistance element of the same programme. It should also be noted that installers must be MCS accredited.
Eligble groups include:
- Farmers (diversifying into energy production)
- Community Groups
- Rural Businesses
Administration and Application:
The scheme is administered via seven Local Action Groups (LAGs) spread throughout Northern Ireland. Please note that the seven local action groups calls for applications open at varying times throughout the year, for details of these please contactyour local LAG directly. Contact details for the LAGs are available on the DARD website.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment has launched a public consultation on the potential introduction of a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) in Northern Ireland. This consultation seeks views of stakeholders on the design and implementation of a RHI for Northern Ireland, as well as on other proposals to develop the renewable heat market in Northern Ireland. On Thursday 30 June the Office for Low Emission Vehicles in the Department of Trade and Transport published its strategy for the roll-out of plug-in vehicle recharging infrastructure. The strategy set a vision for the required infrastructure and the steps that are being taken to remove any potential barriers for those that are willing to invest. The Government is using the Plugged-in Places trials as a central mechanism to inform the development of business models and make sure that all public infrastructure is easy to access.
