Reconnect Logo Reconnect - Renewable Energy Grants for Householders
 
The Reconnect programme closed to grant applications on 31st March 2008.   

Reconnect opened for applications on 24th July 2006, and it aimed to assist at least 4,000 private households to install up to two of the following technologies: solar hot water, photovoltaics (PV), wood fuelled boilers, wood pellet stoves, ground source heating, hydro electric turbines or wind turbines. The total funding allocated to this programme, over two years, was £8m.

Low Carbon Buildings Programme

The Low Carbon Buildings Programme is a UK wide renewable energy grant scheme which is open to residents of Northern Ireland.  Details can be found on the Low Carbon Buildings Programme website or you can telephone 0800 9150990.

NIE Top-Up Scheme
Applications for PV, solar water heating and wind tubines, under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme will be eligible for a  top-up grant from Northern Ireland Electricity.  Solar water heating installations will be eligible for an additional £400, solar photovoltaics will receive an additional 15% or £900 per kWp up to a maximum of £4,500 (whichever is lesser) and wind installations will be eligible for an additional £500 per kWp up to a maximum of £3,000 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs (whichever is lesser).  The top up grants will be issued on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and to be eligible to apply, householders will need to have made a successful application to the LCBP Stream 1.  Accredited installers and products must be used and all relevant approvals must be in place eg building control or planning permission.  For more information see the NIE website.

NIE Housing Association LCBP Phase 2 top up
This Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 (LCBP Phase 2) top up has been developed to assist Housing Associations in Northern Ireland who are keen to make use of renewable energy. To access the LCBP Phase 2 funding, a Framework supplier and local installer must be used. Applicants receiving funding for the same renewable project from any other NIE programme will not be funded through the Housing Association top up.  The application form for grants and the guidelines for support are available on the NIE website.

NIE Help With Hydro
This programme is to help encourage the development of small-scale hydro schemes. NIE will fund a 1kWe upwards system at £500 per kWe, up to a maximum of £20,000, whichever is smaller. This grant is only available to hydro schemes in Northern Ireland, and it is only for new schemes – it will not be paid retrospectively. For more information see the NIE website.
